# Slack

> Ask 3RD about your brand's AI visibility, competitors, citations and playbook from Slack — in a channel with @3RD or in a direct message.

The 3RD Slack app brings your 3RD data into Slack. Mention **@3RD** in a channel, or send it a direct message, and it answers from the same data you see in 3RD:

> “@3RD how did our visibility in ChatGPT develop this month compared to our top competitor?”

It uses the same tools as the [3RD MCP connector](/mcp/overview), and it follows the same rules: every person sees only the brands they can see in 3RD, and nothing changes without their confirmation.

## Before you start

* Your organization needs an **active 3RD subscription**.
* To add the app, you need to be an **owner or admin** of the organization in 3RD.
* Your Slack workspace may require a Slack admin to approve new apps. If it does, Slack asks them when you install.

## Add 3RD to Slack

<Card title="Add to Slack" icon="slack" href="https://app.get3rd.com/slack/install" horizontal>
  Sign in to 3RD and approve the app in Slack. You need to be an owner or admin of an organization with an active subscription.
</Card>

You can also start from inside 3RD:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your organization settings">
    In 3RD, open the account menu, choose **Organisation**, then **Details**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Add to Slack">
    In the **Slack** section, click **Add to Slack**. Slack opens and shows what 3RD asks permission to do.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick your workspace and allow">
    Choose the Slack workspace and click **Allow**. You're sent back to 3RD, and the 3RD bot sends you a welcome message in Slack.
  </Step>
</Steps>

A Slack workspace connects to one 3RD organization. If you're an agency, install it in each client's workspace from that client's organization.

## Connect your 3RD account

Each person connects their own 3RD account once. Nobody can ask on someone else's behalf.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Mention @3RD">
    The first time you mention **@3RD** (or message it directly), you get a **Connect 3RD account** button that only you can see.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in to 3RD">
    The button opens 3RD. Sign in if you aren't already, then click **Continue with Slack**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm it's you in Slack">
    Slack asks you to confirm your identity. When you're sent back, your accounts are connected, and 3RD confirms in a direct message.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can also start this at any time with `/3rd connect`.

## Ask questions

* **In a channel**: invite 3RD once with `/invite @3RD`, then mention **@3RD**. It answers in a thread under your question, and you can keep asking in that thread.
* **In a direct message**: just write to 3RD. No mention needed.

3RD answers in the language you write in. Ask about anything you'd look up in 3RD — visibility and trends, competitors and leaderboard, which sources AI assistants cite, sentiment, your prompts, and what to do next from your playbook.

<Note>
  In a channel, everyone in it can read 3RD's answer. Ask in a direct message when the numbers shouldn't be shared with the whole channel.
</Note>

### Set a channel's brand

If you track more than one brand, tell 3RD which brand a channel is about, so you don't have to name it in every question:

```text theme={null}
/3rd brand Acme
```

You can use a brand's name or its domain. `/3rd brand` on its own shows the channel's current brand. You can still ask about any of your other brands by naming them.

## Make changes from Slack

3RD can also make changes for you — for example add prompts, add a competitor or update a task. It never does so on its own: it shows a **Confirm** button first, and only the person who asked can press it. Press **Cancel** to drop the change. A change that hasn't been confirmed expires after 24 hours.

## Who sees what

* 3RD answers **as the person who asks**, with exactly their access in 3RD: their role, their brands and their plan.
* In a workspace, 3RD only ever uses brands from the organization the workspace is connected to — even if you also have access to other organizations in 3RD.
* If someone loses access in 3RD, they lose it in Slack from their next message.

## Commands

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `/3rd` | Shows who you're connected as, and help |
| `/3rd connect` | Connects your 3RD account |
| `/3rd brand <name or domain>` | Sets the brand this channel talks about |
| `/3rd brand` | Shows this channel's brand |
| `/3rd disconnect` | Disconnects your 3RD account from Slack |

## Remove 3RD from Slack

An owner or admin can go to **Organisation → Details → Slack** in 3RD and click **Disconnect**. 3RD stops answering in the workspace straight away. You can also remove the app from Slack's own app settings.
