# Trello

> Send tasks from 3RD to a Trello board as cards, and move them between lists when their status changes. 3RD never deletes anything in Trello.

Connect Trello and you can send tasks from the [Task management](https://docs.get3rd.com/actions/task-management.md) board straight onto a Trello board. Each task becomes a card with its full brief in the description. When a task's status changes on either side, the other side can follow.

> The Trello integration is in **Beta**. If you don't see the **Trello** row, it isn't switched on for your organization yet.

## Before you start

* You need **edit access** to the brand in 3RD. View-only members don't see the **Connect** button.
* You connect **per brand**. Each brand links its own Trello account.
* You need a Trello account that can see the board you want cards on.

## Connect Trello

**1. Open Integrations**

In 3RD, open **Settings → Integrations** for the brand. Trello is under **Task management**. You can also click **Integrations** on the Task management board.

**2. Click Connect**

In the **Trello** row, click **Connect**. Sign in to Trello and allow 3RD to read and write your boards.

**3. Check it's connected**

Back in 3RD, the row shows **Connected** and the account you linked. If you cancel in Trello, nothing is connected and the row says so.

## Choose where cards go

Open the **⋯** menu in the Trello row and click **Sync settings**. On the Task management board, click the **Trello** button instead. The **How 3RD works with Trello** window opens.

* **Board**: the board the **Send** window opens on.
* **To do**, **In progress**, **Done**: the list a card moves to for each status. Pick **Leave where it is** to keep it in place.

Each board keeps its own choices. Click **Save** when you're done.

## Send tasks to Trello

**1. Select tasks**

On the Task management board, tick the box on each task you want to send. The box shows when you hover over a card.

**2. Click Send to Trello**

In the bar that appears, click **Send to Trello**.

**3. Pick the board and list**

Choose the **Board** and the **List**. With **List for the task's status**, each card goes to the list you set for its status, or to the board's first list. Click **Send**.

3RD shows how many tasks it sent. Each card gets:

| **Card name** | The task's title |
| **Description** | A link back to the task in 3RD, its area and impact, why it matters, and the steps to take |

A task that's already on that board isn't sent twice. Sent tasks show a small Trello icon on their card in 3RD. Click it to open the card in Trello.

## Keep status in step

**From 3RD to Trello.** When you change the status of a sent task in 3RD, 3RD asks **Update Trello too?** Click **Update Trello** to move the card to the list you set for that status, or **Not now** to leave it.

**From Trello to 3RD.** When you move a sent card into a list you matched to a status, the task in 3RD moves to that status. A list you didn't match, or matched to more than one status, changes nothing.

The newest change wins, whichever side made it.

## What 3RD never does

3RD only creates cards and moves the cards it sent between lists on their board. It never:

* deletes or archives anything in Trello
* changes a card's name, description or anything else
* renames lists or changes board members
* touches a card that was archived or moved to another board

## Disconnect

Open the **⋯** menu in the Trello row and click **Disconnect**, then confirm. You can also click **Disconnect** in the **How 3RD works with Trello** window.

3RD stops sending anything to Trello and status changes stop coming back. Cards already in Trello stay where they are.

## Troubleshooting

| You see | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Reconnect needed** on the Trello row | Trello stopped accepting the connection. Click **Reconnect**. |
| **Connect Trello under Settings, Integrations to send these briefs there.** | The brand isn't connected yet. Follow [Connect Trello](#connect-trello). |
| **No Trello list is set for this status, so no card moved.** | Set a list for that status in **Sync settings**. |
| **Could not load the Trello settings.** | Close the window and try again. If it keeps happening, reconnect Trello. |
| **Only people who can edit this brand can change how it works with Trello.** | You have view-only access. Ask someone with edit access. |
| A move in Trello didn't reach 3RD | Check that the list is matched to exactly one status in **Sync settings**. |
