Connect Linear and you can send tasks from the Task management board straight to a Linear team. Each task becomes an issue with its full brief in the description. When a task’s status changes on either side, the other side can follow.
The Linear integration is in Beta. If you don’t see the Linear row, it isn’t switched on for your organization yet.

Before you start

  • You need edit access to the brand in 3RD. View-only members don’t see the Connect button.
  • You connect per brand. Each brand links its own Linear workspace.
  • You need a Linear account that’s a member of the team you want issues in.

Connect Linear

1

Open Integrations

In 3RD, open Settings → Integrations for the brand. Linear is under Task management. You can also click Integrations on the Task management board.
2

Click Connect

In the Linear row, click Connect. Sign in to Linear and allow 3RD access to your workspace.
3

Check it's connected

Back in 3RD, the row shows Connected and the account you linked. If you cancel in Linear, nothing is connected and the row says so.

Choose where issues go

Open the ⋯ menu in the Linear row and click Sync settings. On the Task management board, click the Linear button instead. The How 3RD works with Linear window opens.
  • Team: the team the Send window opens on.
  • To do, In progress, Done: the workflow state an issue moves to for each status.
You don’t have to set anything for status to sync. Until you choose, each status uses the team’s first state of the matching kind, shown as Team default: unstarted for To do, started for In progress and completed for Done. Each team keeps its own choices. Click Save when you’re done.

Send tasks to Linear

1

Select tasks

On the Task management board, tick the box on each task you want to send. The box shows when you hover over a card.
2

Click Send to Linear

In the bar that appears, click Send to Linear.
3

Pick the team and status

Choose the Team and the Status. With Status for the task’s status, each issue starts in the state its task’s status goes to. Click Send.
3RD shows how many tasks it sent. Each issue gets: A task that’s already on that team isn’t sent twice. Sent tasks show a small Linear icon on their card in 3RD. Click it to open the issue in Linear.

Keep status in step

From 3RD to Linear. When you change the status of a sent task in 3RD, 3RD asks Update Linear too? Click Update Linear to move the issue to the state for its new status, or Not now to leave it. From Linear to 3RD. When you move a sent issue to a state that one status goes to, the task in 3RD moves to that status. A state no status goes to, or that more than one status goes to, changes nothing. The newest change wins, whichever side made it.

What 3RD never does

3RD only creates issues and changes the workflow state of the issues it sent. It never:
  • deletes, archives or trashes anything in Linear
  • changes an issue’s title, description or anything else
  • moves an issue to another team
  • changes a team, workflow, project, label or member
  • touches an issue that was archived, trashed or moved to another team

Disconnect

Open the ⋯ menu in the Linear row and click Disconnect, then confirm. You can also click Disconnect in the How 3RD works with Linear window. 3RD stops sending anything to Linear and status changes stop coming back. Issues already in Linear stay where they are.
